I happen to be one of the many lucky who had the opportunity to know him. I didn't know him tremendously well but he definitely touched my life in more ways than I could ever find the words for!
I knew Craig through our High School Band. He was Drum Major my sophmore year! He was the very first person to greet me my first day of Band. Don't get me wrong, I slightly knew others there but I was so nervous heading in (I started 4 days late and I was an orchestra transfer). I wanted to just turn and run I was so afraid of not fitting in but out of no where there was Craig Decker! He shook my hand with enthusiasm and told me he heard about me already and was so happy I was there. His enthusiasm and optimism made me so excited about band! I owe so much to that very first greeting. Craig is the reason I did not quit before I started. From there I became good friends with his brother Kevin and sister Shelley, they are equally amazing! I am so blessed to know them and to have had awesome experiences with them! Now band is practically my life, and I owe it to the Deckers!
Craig was such a Christ-like example and spread love and smiles where ever he went! It was impossible not to love him!! I read this somewhere and it reminds me of something Craig would say: Heavenly Father, remind us each day that of all the gifts you have given us, the greatest is LOVE. It is not enough to share that love with only those we hold dear. Help us open our hearts to all humanity! Let us be slow to judge and quick to fogive! Help us show patience, empathy and LOVE! Rest in peace my friend! You are sorely missed!
