Craig was my drum major when I was a sophomore in band at West Jordan High. As such, he not only worked harder and longer than the rest of us, but he also kept us motivated and laughing during those long hours in the band room.
Every year the band was in charge of putting together the Spring Fling dance. We had to pick a theme, advertise, decorate, run the dance, serve the food, clean up afterward, etc. It was a really big, time consuming project. After the dance got over, we all trudged into the band room and literally crashed. People were draped over chairs, tables, the piano . . . pretty much too exhausted to get up.
Then in walked Craig with a big helium balloon. He took a deep breath of helium and started singing "When You Wish Upon a Star." It was so funny! Everyone was doubled over laughing. After that we all got back up and finished cleaning up and ate the rest of the éclairs that were left over from the dance. It pretty much made my night and I still think of him every time I hear that song. Nobody yet has sung it as well as Craig did that night with the helium balloon.
