Greatest Roommate

Craig and I were roommates last summer. I have never in my life known a more optimistic person.

That first day I met him, when we were moving his stuff into our room, he was wearing a big foam "number one" hand that our friend Steve had given him. He kept saying that it was his first prosthetic and I thought he was kidding until he took it off! He told me some incredible story of how he had lost his hand that was such an obvious fabrication that I called him on it. We used to invent new stories he could tell people. He was always so positive and so funny about his accident (and everything else in life). Still, I imagine I'm one of the few people who ever saw him down about it, and then only when it was very late at night. But even then, Craig would crack a joke or start saying good things about other people and it would bring him right back up again.

I'll never forget his example or his friendship or those conversations we used to have late into the night. God bless him and his family as he has blessed the lives of so many others, including mine.
